Anita Cardoza Apodaca, 83, a resident of Hurley, entered into rest Sunday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She was born July 26, 1911 in Tyrone to Bernabe and Carmen V. Cardoza. Mrs. Apodaca was a faithful member of Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley and most recently a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas. She was a devoted mother and a most special grandmother. She took all her grandchildren into her home and helped raise them as her own. Her home was always warm and filled with lots of love. Survivors include three daughters, Amelia Bencomo and her husband, Danny of Phoenix, Elsie Vasquez and her husband, David, also of Phoenix and Connie Flores and her husband, Fernando of Arenas Valley; two brothers, E.V. Cardoza and his wife, Aurora of Albuquerque and Julian Cardoza and his wife, Gloria of Las Cruces; eight grandchildren, Katherine Jaramillo, Eva Caldwell, Luis and Joe Bencomo, David and Alex Vasquez, and Freddie and ElaineFlores; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Apodaca on Feb. 14, 1989 and a son, Manuel Sony Apodaca in October 1950. Calling hours will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday in Infant Jesus Catholic church, where the prayer vigil will be held at seven. Deacon Johnnie Perez will recite the rosary. The Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with the Rev. John Jusseaume officiating. Burial will follow at the Hurley Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Luis Bencomo, David Vasquez Jr., Freddie Flores, Elaine Flores, David Jaramillo, Christopher Jaramillo and Maurice T. Caldwell. Honorary bearers will be her remaining grand-children and great-grandchildren, Alvaro and Juanita Marrufo, Julian Cardoza and E.V. Cardoza. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.
