Mary Elizabeth Bolden Anthony, 90, a resident of 27 Key St., Elkins, departed this life late Monday evening, March 31, 2003, at her home following a brief illness.
She was born Wednesday, July 3, 1912, at Sawyerville, Ala., a daughter of the late Alfred F. Bolden and Ellen Mosley Bolden.
On Sept. 2, 1939, Monterey, Va., she was married to Eugene C. Anthony, who preceded her in death August 3, 1985.
Surviving are three sisters, Sarah Darcus, Barrackville, Gladys Thompson, Yadkinville, N.C., and Katherine Blake, Springfield, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were one brother, Edward A. Bolden; and three sisters, Rosale Blake, Florence Robinson and Billie F. Scott.
She attended the schools of Mannington and Fairmont, was a graduate of Dunbar High School at Fairmont with the class of 1930, and was a well-known nanny and housekeeper for many families in the Elkins area. She was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion Auxiliary, Benson Chapter No. 17, Order of the Eastern Star, Lady Shriners, Order of the Golden Circle, Virginia Chapel AME Church where she was a member of the board of trustees and was a past president of the Missionary Society. She was a well-known cook being especially noted for her delicious pies.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, 120 First St., Elkins, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, Mrs. Anthony will be moved to the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 Randolph Ave., Elkins, where final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Pastor Ramona Woods and the Rev. Jeff Falter will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mary Elizabeth Bolden Anthony
