Richard was the son of Ralph Annunzio and Frances Bruno. He married Zoe Brown on Oct. 28, 1933 in Scranton, IA. They were the parents of Jerry, Gene, Janne, and Rick.

JEFFERSON BEE - Tuesday, May 1st, 1984 - Funeral services were held Thursday, April 26, from Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson for Richard Annunzio, 72, longtime Greene county resident. The Rev Roger Miller, pastor of Central Christian Church, officiated. Mr and Mrs Richard Benson provided music, with Mrs Gary West as organist. Honorary casket bearers were Donald Hall, Jack Albrecht, Marvin Flack, Harold Elliott, Bill Dunivan, Merwin Farrow, John Greiner and Ron Gillespie. Casket bearers were Dennis Blum, Dick Davis, Donald Muzney, Rick Cummings, John Robinson and Ron Hanson. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery.

Umberto Richard Annunzio, son of Ralph and Frances Bruno Annunzio, was born Feb. 28, 1912, at Des Moines. He died April 23 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. While he was quite young, Richard's family moved to Spring Hill, where he began his schooling. In 1928, the family moved to Norwalk until 1930, when they moved back to Des Moines where he attended Roosevelt High School. After his schooling, Richard moved to Greene county in 1932 where he was employed in the original Greene county coal mine.

On Oct. 28, 1933, Richard was married to Dorothy Zoe Brown at the Christian Church parsonage in Scranton. They were the parents of four children: Jerry, Gene, Janne and Rick. During World War Two, Richard worked in the shipyards in California for a year before returning to Jefferson, where he perfected his carpentry skills by working for many years for M.O. Schoonover. He later worked for Shriver Construction Company until his retirement in 1979. Richard was a former member of Odd Fellows Lodge. He also coached and umpired Little League Baseball for a number of years when the current fields were first built.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; an infant son, Gene; one grandson, Michael Dawson in 1980; and two brothers, Henry and Victor.

He is survived by his wife, Zoe of Jefferson; his children, Jerry and his wife Edna Annunzio of Kansas City, MO, Janne (Mrs Earl) Dawson of Grand Junction and Rick and his wife Marietta Annunzio of Jefferson; seven grandchildren; his mother, Frances Annunzio of Jefferson; two brothers, Arthur of San Francisco, CA, and Robert of Albany, OR; and one sister, Eda (Mrs Donald J.) Smith of Bakersfield, CA.
