Ida Mae Shanks Andrews was born November 2, 1925 to the late Julius and Ina O. Shanks Handy in Osyka, Mississippi. She departed this life October 21, 2008 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
She was united in matrimony to the late Willard Andrews, Sr. That union was blessed with six children: Willard Andrews, Jr., Detroit, Michigan; Cleo Davis and her husband Burnis, Alamogordo, New Mexico; Brenda J. Haddley, Chicago Illinois. Three infant children preceded her in death.
In addition to her children she leaves to cherish her memory four sisters; Cleo Williams, Hazel Garrett, Mildred Bennett, Fanny Ruth Handy and a brother Otha Lee Handy; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother Julius Shanks and Ina O. Shanks Handy; three sisters: Clotiele Thompson, Maida Burris and Alma Carter; two brothers, Willie Handy and Julius Shanks; one grandson, Michael Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday October 25, 2008 at Cornith Baptist Church with Assistant Pastor Kershaw Washington officiating.
Pallbearers include Houston Bickham, Jr., Darrell Bickham, Burnis Davis, Brandan Davis, Charles Reliford and Leonard Lewis.
Internment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The Andrews family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
