His obituary found in The State 29 July 1991: Services for William Jones Andrews Sr., 66, of Columbia will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge. Memorials may be made to Carolina Children's Home. Mr. Andrews died Sunday. Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Lee Hopkins and Laura Daniel Jones Andrews. He retired from Ford Motor Credit after 30 years. A graduate of Columbia High School, he was an Army veteran having served in four major European battles during World War II. A 1949 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in journalism, he was formerly employed with GMAC and Citizens Acceptance Corporation. In 1961, he opened the first Ford Motor Credit office in South Carolina. He was a member of the USC Block C Association, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Terry Andrews; sons, Lee J., William T., William J. Jr. and Jon D. Andrews, all of Columbia; and daughters, Rebecca A. Burris and Catherine Anne Hammond, both of Columbia.

From the book, South Carolina Lives, The Palmetto Who's Who, by Louise Jones Dubose, Historical Record Association, 1963, page 12 (the parts that are not included in the obit above): Andrews, William Jones, 1664 Shady Lane..born near Ware Shoals...his paternal grandparents were Elihue Franklin Andrews and Emma Katherine Andrews. On this side of his family he is distantly related to President Theodore Roosevelt. Mr. Andrews' maternal grandparents were Dr. William Townes Jones and Laura Jane (Daniel) Jones...On September 19, 1946, he married Catherine Rebecca Terry of Martin, South Carolina, a graduate of Columbia College with an A.B. degree in the class of 1947...During World War II he entered service with the United States Army on May 19, 1943. In July of 1944 he was assigned to the European Theatre where he took part in the Battles of Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe. His rank was T/5, Radio Operator, and he was attached to the 276th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. Mr. Andrews received an honorable discharge from the armed forces on November 20, 1945. He is a member of the Democratic Party. In the Trenholm Methodist Church, Mr. Andrews serves on the Athletic Council. He is interested in all sports, particularly hunting and fishing.
