Born November 7, 1931 in Durham, Gary was the son of the late Ervin Howard and Nettie Hackney Andrews. He was a retired employee with General Telephone Company, where he worked for about forty years, and was also the owner and operator of Andrews Kountry Kitchen. An animal lover, Gary was fondly known by his family as "Dr. Doolittle"
Surviving are his wife of fifty nine years, Vivian Penny Andrews; three daughters, Deborah Andrews and Barbara Brown both of Durham, and Sheryl Michael and fiance Paddy of Raleigh; his son, Michael David Andrews and wife Pam of Durham, two sisters, Jean Carver and Betty Lou Mangum both of Durham, a brother-in-law, Wayne Draughon of Reidsville, seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeff and wife Shelley, Rodney, Heather and husband Kenny, Brett, Brad and Chris; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Noah, Autumn, Brenden, Rodney, Jr., Tyler, and Courtney. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Draughon
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 PM at the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel, Rev. Douglas Brown officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Allen, Brett Andrews, Jeff Brown, Kenny Cadell, Brad Michael, and Chris Michael.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Durham County Sheriff's Office.
