George Mabry Anderson MD, 93, died at his Lake Charles home of old age while watching is beloved LSU football team on Saturday, September 10, 2011.
Dr. Anderson was a native of Coleman, FL. and was married to Dr. Yvonne Stelly Anderson for over 63 years. Dr. Anderson graduated from LSU Medical School in 1943. Upon graduation he entered the Army Medical Corps in 1943. He was a member of both the Sigma Chi and Phi Kappa Phi Fraternities. Dr. Anderson was one of the first doctors in the south to do research and publish material on anticoagulants. He was the first Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the first Fellow of the American College of Cardiology in the city of Lake Charles.
Dr. Anderson authored numerous publications, a few are: "The Use Of Dicumarol As An Adjunct To The Treatment Of Congestive Heart Failure" Reprint From the Southern Medical Journal, April 1948; "Treatment And Prevention Of Pulmonary Embolism, Qenoils Thrombosi; And Other Thrombo-Embolic Episodes" Reprint from New Orleans Medical and Surgical Journal, October, 1947; "The Effect Of Dicumaroc Upon The Mortality And Incidence Of Thromboembolic Complications In Congestive Heart Failure", Reprint from American Heart Journal , May, 1950; "Anticoagulant Therapy In Coronary Artery Insufficiency" Reprint The Journal Of The Louisiana State Medical Society, February, 1957; "The Carotid Sinus Syndrome" Reprint The Journal Of The Louisiana State Medical Society, February, 1964.
Dr. Anderson served on the following hospital staffs: Saint Patrick Hospital Lake Charles LA.; Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Lake Charles, LA; West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital Sulphur, LA; and Moss Regional Hospital Lake Charles, LA. He was a member of the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, Southern Medical Association, American Society of Internal Medicine, and Louisiana Heart Association . He was also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology. He was also appointed to Louisiana State University School of Medicine as a clinical professor of medicine.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Stelly Anderson M.D.; son, George M. Anderson II, Phd. ; daughter, L. Anne Hayman M.D.; grandchildren, John Joseph Pagani and William Andrew Pagani; nephew, John Thibodeaux and wife Leigh Ann; nieces, Laurie Thibodeaux Cormier, Susan Thibodeaux Blevins and her husband Jack, and Gay Thibodeaux Louviere and her husband Larry; sister-in-law, Sister Monica Stelly; and brother-in-law, Mr. Leo Stelly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Winifred Varn and Otto Anderson.
His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8p.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, LA with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Consolata Cemetery. The family would like to thank his personal care givers and Heart of Hospice nurse and aides. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association at PO Box 840692 Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
