COLUMBUS, GEORGIA- Charles Richard Anderson, 87, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Columbus Hospice House.

Mr. Anderson was born July 31, 1923 in Shiloh, GA the son of the late John Wesley Anderson and the late Carrie Hudson Anderson. He was a lifelong resident of the Columbus area and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from civil service at Fort Benning with the post engineers as supervisor in the heating and air department at Sand Hill.

Mr. Anderson was an avid sports fan of the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Corene King Anderson.

Survivors include his son, Dan Anderson and his wife, Cathy of Midland; two brothers, Luther Anderson and his wife, Mildred of Woodland and Maltie Anderson and his wife, Sarah of Columbus; one sister, Elaine Daniel of Woodland; two grandchildren, Amanda DiLeonardo and her husband, Stephen and James Anderson and his wife, Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Stephen and Sophia DiLeonardo; two step-grandchildren, Anthony Foley and his wife, Anessia and Elizabeth Foley; two step-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Kerris Foley; two sisters-in-law, Beth McKinney of Brunswick and Frances Frye of Atlanta; numerous nieces and nephews.
