Alfred spent his early years in Garden City, SD. And moved to Clark, South Dakota in 1924 and then to Bushnell, South Dakota in 1935. Alfred was united in marriage to Alice Lynch on February 14, 1937 in Bushnell and started farming in the Aurora, South Dakota area, which he did for 15 years. He worked for eight years at the Bailey Tire Shop and for 15 years at the Farmers Coop in Brookings. Alice died in 1981 in Brookings. On October 9, 1982, he was united in marriage to Martha Irene Clark Jaacks in Aurora, SD. They continued to make Brookings their home. Martha died on January 16, 2003. He has been a resident of Greenleaf Assisted Living since 2001. Alfred enjoyed his 91 years of life and was known for his great sense of humor.
He was a member of the Brookings Wesleyan Church.
Alfred is survived by one daughter, Faye Small of Hemet, CA; one sister, Ruth Stewart of Grants Pass, OR; one brother, Robert Anderson (Mavis) of White, SD; sister-in-law Viola Little of Brookings, SD; numerous nieces and nephews; Martha's family Shirley Reynolds (Stan) of Flandreau, SD, Isabel Apland of Brookings, SD, Vernie Jaacks (Sharon) of Colman, SD, Merle Jaacks (Rosemary) of Flandreau, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, his parents, three brothers, three sisters and a son-in-law.
