Evelyn M. Culek

1929-2010

Evelyn May Culek, 80, of Cheyenne died in Cheyenne on March 29.

Evelyn was born in Niwot, Colo., on Aug. 1, 1929, the daughter of Earl and Melissa (Woodcock) Anderson. She graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 1947 at Kimball County High School.

She met John Joseph Culek at a Junior Farm Bureau meeting and they were married on Oct. 20, 1948, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball.

They lived on a farm southwest of Pine Bluffs where Evelyn was a homemaker. She served in many capacities within Farm Bureau, 4-H, the local Bible study group, the Democratic Party, the Pine Bluffs Historical Society and Saint Paul's Catholic Church. In 2005 Evelyn and John moved to Aspen Wind Assisted Living facility in Cheyenne.

Survivors include her husband, John of Cheyenne; her children, Emily (Del) Howery of Pavilion, John Culek Jr. of Pine Bluffs, Fred (Pam) Culek of Cheyenne, Mary (J) Pearson of Avoca, Iowa, Marie (Joe) Shutty of Cheyenne, Earl (Laura) Culek of Bellevue, Neb., and Betty Larson and Joe Overson of Elko, Nev.; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Leona Marie Adels; daughter, Janet Kay Schooner; and a great grandson, Joseph "JoJo" Shutty V.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs, with Father Killian Muli officiating. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery.

A Christian Wake service will be held at 9:15 a.m. prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Memorials have been established to the St. Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington, WY. Services have been entrusted to Cantrell Funeral Home.
