Lyle Elwood Anderson was born September 13, 1921 on the family farm near Kidder, SD to Ernest H.W. and Anna Marie (Hanson) Anderson. He grew up there and attended school in Kidder, graduating from Kidder High School in 1940. During his high school career, Lyle was noted for being an excellent basketball player. After receiving his education, Lyle helped on the family farm.

On June 30, 1956, he married Harriet Anetta Swanson in Webster, SD. They lived for a short time on the farm near Kidder before moving to the Swanson family farm near Cayuga, ND. They eventually bought that farm, and Lyle continued to work on the farm until his health no longer allowed it. He was especially fond of the livestock on the farm, which consisted mostly of cattle and sheep. He and Harriet remained on the farm until moving to Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Forman in April of 2013.

Lyle had been a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Havana until it closed. During his time there, he had served as a Sunday school teacher. They later joined the Trinity Lutheran Church in Havana. Lyle also served on the board of supervisors for Tewaukon Township for many years. Lyle's life's work of farming was also his passion. He truly loved farming. In his younger years, Lyle enjoyed hunting. He continued his love of basketball, and greatly enjoyed watching the tournaments on television.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 57 years, Harriet; his four children: Larry and Gary Anderson, Linda McCreight and Joyce Digre; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Anton Anderson and two sisters: Buelah Gabriel and Alma Morales.
