Born in Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co, Ca to Fleming and Amelia Amyx.
Father was assemblyman for Tuolumne co in 1856 and 1860.
Andrew studied law under W. Dudley in Stockton.
Left Stockton to become an Indian Scout in Arizona.
He was attacked by Apaches. Shot in Leg with arrows. Developed and infection that paralysed him and made him blind. Died in poverty at the County Hospital. Buried in the potter's field.
Stepfather/uncle was Hairston Amyx, Stockton Judge and attorney. Mother Amelia married her brother in law Hairston six months after Fleming died in 1861.
