He was of the Baptist faith and attended Elmdale Baptist Church. Mr. Ames was retired from furniture sales and at one time owned a car wash. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. He enjoyed his grandkids, fishing and hunting and spending time with the family.
Mr. Ames is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louis Stout Ames; two sons: Phillip Ames and Cheryl of Rogers and Stephen Ames and Tommy of Springdale; one daughter: Carolyn Morris and Gary of Springdale; four brothers Leroy Ames and Jimmy Ames both of Springdale, Raymond Ames of Eureka Springs, and Ted Ames of West Richland, Wash.; two sister: Mary Ann Lee of Springdale and Reva June Leisure of Bentonville; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010, with Rev. Tom Shaw and Gary Morris officiating, with burial following in Bluff Cemetery.
