Civil War Veteran. United States Revenue Marine (USRM). Commissioned 3rd Lieutenant U.S. Revenue Marine, April 13, 1837. 2nd Lieutenant, December 9, 1839. 1st Lieutenant, September 1, 1846. On account of a reduction in the number of officers his commission was vacated June 11, 1849. Recommissioned 3rd Lieutenant July 8, 1854, 2nd Lieutenant March 10, 1855. Reduced to 2nd Lieutenant, January 9, 1862. Commissioned 1st Lieutenant, July 1, 1863; Captain, July 11, 1864. During the period of the War of the Rebellion he served on the U.S.S. Cushing; U.S.S. Black; U.S.S. Aqassiz; U.S.S. Forward and the U.S.S. Pawtuxet.
