Reduced to 2nd Lieutenant, January 9, 1862. Commissioned 1st Lieutenant, July 1, 1863; Captain, July 11, 1864. During the period of the War of the Rebellion he served on the U.S.S. Cushing; U.S.S. Black; U.S.S. Aqassiz; U.S.S. Forward and the U.S.S. Pawtuxet.
