Robert Peyton Alsup, born August 2, 1910, Wilson Co, TN, son of Grover Cleveland Alsup and Mollie L. Clemons, died of natural causes, peacefully on February 1, 2002 at a local infirmary. A Christian, he was a longtime educator and basketbill coach at mulitple area schools including David Lipscomb. He was also a former enployee of Penn Mutual Insurance Company. Often referred to as "Mayor of Granny White". He is preceded in death by a daughter, Jane; brothers, Clyde and John Alsup. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth O. Alsup; sisters, Mammie Baird of Lebanon, TN, and Allie Alsup of Larium, MI; brothers, Grover Alsup of Tustin, CA, and Wilson Alsup of Nashville, NC. Memorial services will be held Sunday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Woodlawn Chapel of Roses with Charles Chumbley officiating. A private burial will be on Monday. February 4, 2002. Visitation will be Saturday 5 to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 12 noon to time of service. Arrangements by Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, 383-4754. A Dignity Memorial Provider.
