Starkville News
December 23, 1921

Mr. Grey S. Alston, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizens of Starkville, died at his home here Friday morning, Dec. 16th. He had been a sufferer for several years from paralysis, and although his death was a shock to his family and friends, it was not unexpected. He was a splendid citizen—a man loved and esteemed by all who knew him—and a Christian gentleman.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the family residence conducted by Rev. W. H. Hill, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and interment was in Odd Fellows cemetery. A large concourse of friends attended the funeral.

Mr. Alston is survived by his wife, two daughters and six sons. His daughters are: Misses Lillian and Musa Alston of this city, and the sons are Robert and Henry Alston of Starkville, Joe Alston of Tupelo, Park Alston of Drew, Miss., David Pressly Alston of Mobile, and Wallace Alston of Louisiana. These have the sympathy of the entire community.

Per the publication date of Sills' obituary and the obituary of his brother, Spencer (dated 29 April 1921)... Grey Sills Alston's tombstone death date should read 1921.
