He was born November 6, 1935 in New Haven, son of the late Hillard Allyn and Beatrice Barton Allyn. Mr. Allyn served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was an engineer with Pratt & Whitney. He was a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in Hartford and Norwich, a member of Masonic Lodge #4, West Hartford, and a Shriner member at the Sphinx Temple in Newington.
He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America in the Hartford area, was a member of Weekapaug RI Foundation For Conservation, served on the Executive Committee for Shady Harbor Fire District in Charlestown, RI, a member of U.S.C.G. Auxiliary Flotilla 59 at Sandsprint Park, Stuart, FL, and was a volunteer at the Elliott Museum on Hutchinson Island, FL. Mr. Allyn was a volunteer at the Martin County Red Cross Chapter, volunteered his time for the Martin County Meals on Wheels Program, and was a member of the Porsche Club of America.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Susan Allyn of Sewalls Point, FL and Charlestown, RI; his son, Don Allyn, Jr. of Sewalls Point, FL; his daughters, Cheryl Allyn of West Hartford, Barbara Luscier of Sammamish, WA, and Linda Allyn of Bothell, WA; and four grandchildren, Allyn, Ryan, Mike and Jordan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Allyn.
A private service will be held at sea by U.S.C.G.A. under orders by The United States Coast Guard. Inurnment will be at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly, RI. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of Martin at 1201 S.E. Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997 or The U.S.C.G.
