Andrew Kimmins Allum
Birth: Apr. 20, 1841
Greene County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Jul. 28, 1918
Woods County
Oklahoma, USA

When John Tyler was President, Andrew Kimmins "Andy" Allum was born in 1841 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, bringing to three the number of children of Jonathan Allum, 1817-1889, and Ellisabeth Supler, 1811-1893. Eventually, six more siblings joined them, one male dying in childhood and one female in infancy. Andrew's parents farmed in Richhill Township; so did the parents of his future wife, Margaret Ann Loar.

When Andrew and Margaret began married life in 1861, Abraham Lincoln was President. Their first years as a couple witnessed the Civil War and, afterward, the birth and death of daughter Lydia, born in 1866, died in 1868, then laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Wind Ridge, Greene County. Likely influenced by his elder brother John's migration in 1867, with four children Andrew and Margaret arrived in Jasper County, Iowa in 1869 settling near John Supler Allum, his wife Elisabeth and their family. There, Andrew and Margaret had four additional children, losing two -- sons George and John -- in 1871 and 1884.

Andrew lived in four states and farmed in all: Pennsylvania, Iowa, Missouri and Oklahoma. With wife and family, he left Iowa in 1893 settling in Pleasant Hill, Cass County, MO, pressing on by covered wagon to Woods County, OK in 1901 where he spent the remainder of his years. Margaret preceded Andrew in death by fourteen years, passing on in 1904. When Andrew died in 1918, it was during yet another War World War I when Woodrow Wilson was President. Andrew was buried beside Margaret in Union Center Cemetery near Dacoma in Woods County, where they share a tall stone bearing pertinent dates on two sides. Andrew's engraving is clearly visible on the adjacent photo. A Masonic emblem precedes his name and dates of birth and death. --DeeAnna
