Obituary of Mrs. James Allison
The funeral services of Mrs. Ann E. Allison, widow of the late James Allison, of Monroe township was held from the Christian church at Welcome, Sunday July 8, at 11 o'clock. J. P. Allison, pastor of the Christian church at Waynesburg, Pa., was the officiating minister. Aside from being a nephew, Mr. Allison had for a time made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Allison ---- to speak in a most intimate and appreciative way of the many virtues of the deceased. He said in part, "Some homes radiate their wholesome influences out like a beacon light for miles in every direction. Their contributions to the well-being of society are so apparent to all as to provoke upon every hand the most favorable comment. Mrs. Allison in her genial disposition, her view of humor, her appreciation of young life made her a confident of a host of young people. Her fidelity to the Lord and His church were unwavering. She had the joy of seeing all her nine children follow her and her faithful husband's example into the Christian church at Monroe. These children are making valuable contributions in service and may well be said to adorn doctrine of their Lord and Master." A large concourse of people attended the funeral and interment services. The following obituary was read at the service. Ann Elizabeth J. Philips was born in Allegheny county, Pa., April 6, 1831, where she spent her girlhood days. She was united in marriage to James Allison, March 16, 1854, after which they came to Holmes county, Ohio, to make their home ½ mile north of Welcome. To this union was born four sons and five daughters - Herbert, Ellsworth, William and Byron; Laura, Zerelda, Estella, Lulu and May. The father, Herbert, William, Byron and Estella have all been called home before her. Mrs. Laura E. Finney, Mrs. M. G. Bird of Welcome; Ellsworth of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. A. M. Shrimplin of Loudonville; Mrs. Virgil Cline of Angola, Ind., 19 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother James Philips, Bridgeville, Pa., and scores of other relatives and friends are left to mourn for her. She untied with the church early in life and remained faithful until death called her home, Thursday, July 5th, at 5 p.m., aged 86 years, 2 months and 29 days. She was also a life member of the Christian Woman's Board of Missions. To her family she was always a kind a loving wife and mother, ever faithful to her God and the church.
