Richard Leroy Allison, Carl Junction, passed to eternal life on November 13, 2011.

He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 24, 1930 to Jesse and Pauline Allison. He graduated from Paseo High School in 1948 where he led the jazz band.

In 1950, he graduated from Joplin Junior College. In 1952, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri.

Dick was an accomplished musician. For thirty eight years, he led his very popular orchestra, playing at venues all over the area. They were regulars at school proms; military balls; private parties; Scottish Rite Club; Twin Hills Country Club; the Joplin Women’s Club and even played on top of the former Connor Hotel. The orchestra was led in vocals by his wife, Betty Jane. They shared a memorable performance when together, they played for Dennis Weaver.

He was a distributor of the Joplin Globe for forty-four years. Initially, he serviced homes then later news racks. He truly enjoyed his work.

Dick was a member of the First Baptist Church of Joplin for fifty years. He has a zest for life; a unique sense of humor; enjoyed people and loved animals. He often said he never met a dog he didn’t love and brought dogs home to his wife of fifty three years, Betty Jane. She said they have adopted over fifty homeless dogs in addition to several others they had purchased.

Dick is survived by his wife, Betty Jane; one daughter, Jessica Sellers and her husband, Clayton, Carl Junction; three brothers-in-law, Gene Colegrove, Carl Junction, Albert Hartman and his wife, Nita, Carthage, Michael Hartman and his wife, Laurie, Flat Rock, North Carolina; two nephews, Rustin And Blake Hartman; nieces, Kathy Butler, Lynda Metsker, Shelly and Christie Hartman and Hayley Hartman-Unruh.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Colegrove; and her daughter, Gina Beth.

He will also be sadly missed by his loving dogs, Precious, Missy Daisey, Prince; and grand puppies, Coco, Monet and Buddy.

Services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Dave Burgess and Rev. Jamie Tickle will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 4-5:30 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society.
