Kenneth H. Allington, 94, Stratford, died on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Marshfield Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford. Rev. Eric Berns will officiate and music will be provided by St. Joseph's Resurrection Choir. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6352 of Stratford at the church following the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Veers, James Veers, Jason Allington, Dave Noreen, Thad Jacobs and Daniel Rock. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the village of Stratford at a later date.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 am until service time at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Kenneth was born on July 13, 1916 in Stratford, the son of Ernest and Frieda (Klemme) Allington and was a 1934 graduate of Stratford High School. In 1934 he began employment at Allington and VanRyzin General Merchandise, Inc. in Stratford and later owned and operated the business along with Ralph Van Ryzin until 1981. Ken was united in marriage to Leone M. Connaughty on November 9, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa. She died on February 27, 2007. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on June 10, 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 5, 1945. He served on the Stratford Water and Electric Department for several years, on the finance committee at St. Joseph's Church and was a member of the former Stratford Men's Business Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing at his cottage in Phillips, woodworking and sports. Ken had a very positive attitude and zest for life. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children. Kenneth John (Ellen) Allington of Phillips, Jane (John) Veers of Kankakee, IL, and Sally (Peter) Chrouser of Stratford. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Michael (Laurie) Allington, Kristine Allington, Jason (Andrea) Allington, Charles Veers, James (Lauren) Veers, Dan (Erin) Veers, Alyssa Veers, Kelly (Dave) Noreen, Kathryn (Thadd) Jacobs and Kimberly Rock, and twelve great grandchildren, John, Lucas, Sarah, Sophia, Josephine, Marie, James, Cole, Claire, Grayson, Veronica, and Madison. He is further survived by a brother and two sisters, William Allington of Wausau and Bette (Glen) Knorr of Wisconsin Rapids, and Lois Hambrock of Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Donovan Allington. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Parish Endowment Fund.
