~MY ANCESTOR~

The son of CAPT. DANIEL & REBECCA (COOPER) ALLING, he was baptized Nov. 3, 1734 at the First Church of New Haven and married DORCAS BALDWIN on March 23, 1756 at the Congregational Church in Woodbridge, Conn.

"History of the United Church of New Haven" by Mary Hewitt Mitchell, Ph.D., 1942, p. 221
"Other prosperous men were connected with the society and sometimes served on it's committees -- Daniel Alling and Silas Alling."

Since Silas & Dorcas died and were probably buried in the New Haven Green, it's possible, since their burial was so close to the time that some of the bodies were reburied in the Grove Street Cemetery (1822), that they were moved there. The fact that their son, Silas, who died in 1805 is buried in the Grove Street Cemetery in 40 Linden Ave., Row 92, makes it even more likely that they were moved there. No tombstone has been found for him.

He made his will April 27, 1809, which was presented in Probate Court, July 4, 1817. His sons, Asa and Edward were appointed executors, one-third of his estate was given to wife Dorcas, and the remainder equally to Elizabeth, wife of John Scott; William Noyes, Jr., son of daughter Rebecca, deceased; to sons Amos, Edward, Lewis, Asa, and heirs of son Silas, deceased.

They were the parents of seven known children ["A History & Genealogical Record of the Alling-Allens of New Haven, Conn.", p. 178-1788 says they had eight children], the oldest being my ancestor, ELIZABETH ANN (ALLING) GILBERT.

Connecticut Journal, July 15, 1817, p. 3, Col. 4, Deaths in this town: Mr. Silas Allen, aged 85 [should have been 83?].
