Sybil Allen Anderson, 88, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 5, 2010. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Sybil was born on April 14, 1922 in Peachland, NC.
She was the fourth of five children born to Young Hawkins Allen and Mattie Perry Allen. She lived in Peachland until her graduation from Peachland High School in 1939, after which she attended Appalachian State Teacher's College.
She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in 1943, after which she taught elementary school in Roanoke Rapids, NC and then Burlington, NC.
While in Burlington she met Bob Anderson, who she married in 1948. They moved to Raleigh in 1952, and later moved to MacGregor Downs in Cary in 1971. Sybil loved children and teaching, and she taught elementary school for 30 years before retiring in 1980.
She was a longtime member of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, which she loved dearly. After Sybil retired from teaching she enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening, quilting, traveling, her friends, and most of all, her family.
Sybil and Bob also enjoyed spending time at their beach houses at Holden Beach. Throughout their almost 60 years of loving and devoted marriage, Sybil and Bob had 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought them tremendous pride.
Sybil was cherished by her entire family, who will always remember her laughter, her stories, her beauty, and her complete and never-ending love. All who were lucky enough to know Sybil saw how to live with strength, faith, compassion, humor, joy, dignity, and love.
Surviving are her daughter, Susan Anderson Hyman, and her husband, Gary; sons, John Robert Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Cindy, and Michael Edward Anderson; grandchildren, Dr. Steven Robert Anderson and wife Erin, Justin Howard Anderson, Michael Allen Hyman, Casey Caroline Hyman, Joseph Michael Anderson, and Jacob Allen Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Anderson, Lilly Elizabeth Anderson, and Claire Elizabeth Anderson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bob Anderson, and her sons, Steven Allen Anderson and David Ballentine Anderson.
