OBITUARIES:
Lera Viola Kirby
(ROANOKE) Services for Lera Viola Kirby, 94, of Roanoke were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001 at Rock Stand Christian Church, with the Revs. Don Quick, Harold Bonner and Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Kirby died Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Traylor Nursing Home in Raonoke.
A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was born on March 26, 1907, daughter of Church Hill Allen and Dura Clark Allen. She had been employed with Palm Beach Company and was a member of Rock Stand Christian Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Odell Caldwell and Jadie Austin Kirby.
Survivors include four stepdaughters, Frances Bailey of Heflin, Joyce Prince and Betty Moon of Roanoke, and Martha Murphree of Starkville, Miss.; a stepson, Austin Kirby of LaGrange, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers were Ricky Pike, Alan Pike, David Beverly, Paton Zeigler, Edward Beverly and Alan Blythe. Honorary pallbearers were Fred May, W. T. Clark, John Harmon, Bill Prince, Wallace Murphree, Wayne Jones and Shaff Wier.
Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.
