John W. Allen, Sr., 89 years, a resident of Brown Street, Kennebunk died Monday, June 11, 2012 at Southern Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Ashland, ME on April 21, 1923, a son of Frank and Julia (Burgess) Allen, and attended Ashland schools.
He served in the United States Army during WWII, stationed in Italy and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
After the war, John was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for several years before becoming a carpenter, working in the Kennebunk area for many years. He also worked for a few with his son John following his retirement.
John enjoyed watching baseball games and Nascar racing, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife Georgia (Smith) Allen, who died in 2000 and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
John was survived by 2 sons, John W. Allen, Jr. and his wife Mari-Jo of Arundel and Henry J. Allen, Sr. and his wife Ann of Kennebunk; a daughter Priscilla Guilbault and her husband Raymond of Kennebunk; a brother, Frank Allen of Ashland, ME and a sister Francis Clark of Lincoln, ME; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 6-8PM Friday, June 15, 2012 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2PM at Hope Cemetery, Portland Road Kennebunk, on Saturday, June 16, 2012.
