Doris Griffin
The Lord called Doris to eternal glory on Friday, July 25, 2008, at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehab Center in Shewsbury, Pa., after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Malakoff on March 13, 1940, but her family moved to Dawson early in her life and that's where she received her primary education, graduating in 1959 from George Carver High School as salutatorian of her class. Her primary love was reading the Bible and learning about God's plan for mankind. That love extended to her family and others that she met and interfaced with. She was intrigued with and enjoyed fellowshipping with all the various people she had chanced to meet throughout her lifetime. And she always had a ready smile and an encouraging word to give. Her other interests included growing flowers, arts and crafts. In 1968, she joined the Worldwide Church of God and attended the church in various locations Dallas, Waco, Big Sandy, Lumberton, N.C., and Charleston, S.C., and, finally, Baltimore, Md. She remained a faithful member of the church until her death. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." She was preceded in death by her father, L. Z. Allen; and mother, Lorene Jaggers. Doris leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Lena Toney of Fort Worth; three children, Latan Keith Griffin of Ocean Springs, Miss., Vernon Wayne Griffin of New Freedom, Pa., and Wanda Faye Griffin of Columbia, S.C.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Straight Way Baptist Church in Corsicana. Interment will follow at Resthaven Mausoleum. Arrangements by Ross and Johnson Mortuary.
