Frances Lee Bartlett Allen was called home by God on June 27, 2021. She was born March 14, 1930, to Earnest Virgil Bartlett and Vada Mae Harrison Bartlett. She had two brothers; Jay and Houston, and three sisters; Jimmie Flowers, Pat Brown, and Geneva Gustin. Jay, Jimmie, and Houston are deceased.
When she was two years old, she had Scarlet Fever and lost the eardrum in her right ear and the left eardrum was severely damaged. She was affected by this during her school years. She did learn how to read lips proficiently. She also sat in several teacher's laps to be able to hear what was being said. She graduated High School in Ralls, Texas. After high school, she went to beauty school and learned how to be a beautician. Though she had her license, she never worked in a shop. She did, however, maintain her license for several years and do hair in her home for family and friends.
She met and married the love of her life, Justin Roy Allen on May 1, 1949, in Carlsbad New Mexico. Out of this union, she had two daughters: Barbara Sue Allen Carr (David) and Marilyn Jane Allen Baker (Weldon). They had 62 wonderful years together.
She became a wonderful homemaker. She was one of the best cooks, and Daddy always praised her for her wonderful meals. She also was a talented seamstress. She made her girls' clothes with a sewing machine that she got in 1953. It was a Kenmore machine and was made in Germany with metal parts. The machine is still working today and being used by her daughter Marilyn for making quilts for the Children's Advocacy of Lubbock. She also became a part of that program at Redbud Baptist Church.
She became a member of the Newcomers Club when they moved to Plainview and learned to play bridge. She was an avid player and enjoyed playing bridge several times a week. When she joined the senior citizens club in Plainview, Texas she continued honing her skills at bridge and became a bridge teacher. Later she took up the art of painting and has many pictures. She was a beautiful artist and tried to share her artwork with family and friends. What Mom set her mind to do she always did her best.
In her mid-forties Mom went through several ear surgeries and had repair done on both ears though she never got hearing back in the right ear, her left ear became a surgical ear, and her hearing was greatly improved. She got her first good hearing aid in her early twenties which made life for her much easier.
When she became a Nanny, she loved her grandchildren and doted on them. Her first Grandson Robert John Dendy (Teresa) 2nd Jeremy Dean Mayhew (Mindy), 3rd Brian Jay Baker (Tanya) 4th Joni Carol Mayhew Martin (Bobby), and 5th Janie Lynn Baker. She also had Bubba (Weldon)Davis Baker, Shawn, Christi, Gloria, and Robert Carr. Robert John Dendy and Bubba Baker are both deceased. She had a fifth generation for a while that included her, Marilyn, Robert, Zachary, and Brody and she was proud of that. She has 14 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She lost the love of her life on May 25, 2011 and has mourned and missed him for the last 10 years. But because of her caregiving and love for him, he lived 22 years with heart problems, and we were all blessed because of her faithfulness and tender care for him.
Mom lived the last 4 1/2 years with her Daughter Marilyn with heart problems, but she still enjoyed going to church and having family gatherings. She always beamed when her kiddos would come to see her. Her grandchildren always thought of Nanny's house as home and loved to stay with her, never ready to come home.
She has blessed many lives and had a full rich life herself. She loved the Lord and enjoyed going to College Heights Baptist Church and then coming to Redbud Baptist Church. She always praised God for his many blessings.
She said that if anyone wanted to do something for her to donate to the Redbud Baptist Church Quilting program so that those children could have a quilt of their own because she believed every child mattered and needed a blankie all their very own.
