Elizabeth (DISHMAN) ALLEN, daughter of Jeremiah and Susannah DISHMAN, was born August 17, 1851, near Owensburg, and died at her late home in Mineral, August 13, 1927, aged seventy-five years, eleven months and twenty-six days. She was one of a large family. Three sisters survive her, Mrs. Harriet KUNKLE and Mrs. Jan STEWART, of Nebraska, and Mrs. Mollie STEWART, of Kansas; two brothers John and Jeremiah; three half brothers, Clarence, Alvin and Danny, together with the parents have gone to their reward.
Her parents were pioneers of Greene County and descendants of the RAINBOLT and BOONE family, of which the famous Daniel BOONE was a member.
She united with the Christian Church in her youth and was faithful in the service of her Master through all the years of her long and useful life.
Her last Sabbath on earth was spent at the annual homecoming meeting at Koleen. She looked forward to this occasion with the eagerness of a child, and greatly enjoyed the services and meeting, and greeting old friends and neighbors, with whom she had touched shoulders through the active years the friends and comrades who had cheered her on her way and had made her life brighter and burdens lighter until there was born a friendship that survives the years. When the services were over; while on her way to her car, she was stricken and from that time was cared for and administered to by loved ones, and all that loving hearts and willing hands could do to alleviate her suffering and if possible stay the hand of the grim reaper was done but on Saturday, August 13, the Master touched her and she slept. We know our earthly house must fall but we can't tell just when it will be.
She was married to James R. ALLEN November 26, 1882. To this union were born five children, namely, Delonnay ALLEN, of Koleen; Susannah DENNIS, and Harriet E. JONES, of Bloomfield; John H. deceased, and Elmer ALLEN, of Mineral, with whom she was living at the time of her death. She is survived by the four children mentioned and one step-son, William ALLEN, of Park, and thirteen grandchildren. Other step-children, Ephraim, Hiram and Florence ALLEN have preceded her to the glory land.
She was a hardworking woman never eating the bread of idleness but often rising before it was day to look to the ways of her household.
All her children can call her blessed as she was a good mother and step-mother, kind neighbor and friend, and has contributed to the world for useful citizens, and though we put her body out of sight and see her no more in the flesh still through these four children she will continue to live and bless for the spirit there is not death.
