Sgt. Rt. Harry Allen, Jr., 82, of Columbus died Monday, June 2, 2008 at Muscogee Manor in Columbus. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 5, 2008 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Duncan officiating. A private interment will be in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus. Sgt. Allen was born April 16, 1926 in Moline, Il. son of the late Harry Allen, Sr. and Juanita Pierce Allen. He was a member of Beallwood Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran and a Helicopter Instructor for over 20 years and served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife Virginia Cunningham Allen of Columbus; one daughter, Karen Allen Simms (Robert) of Columbus; two sons, John Allen of Columbus and Michael Bartley of Carrollton, TX; three sisters, Evelyn Owens of East Moline, IL, Bernice Dennis of Sun Prairie, WI and Arlene Sneider of Shawnee, OK; four grandchildren, Kevin Bartley, Bobby Simms, Blake Simms and Susie Simms; three great grandchildren, Jacob Simms, Breana Simms and Jocelyn Simms, several nieces and nephews.
