Mrs. Alford had been a patient at the hospital for about a week. Mrs. Alford was born Feb. 13, 1860 at Hills Creek, near Tioga, PA. Until the death in 1923 of her husband, Horatio, she lived at Tioga. Her husband was station agent for the Erie Railroad there for many years. Since 1923 Mrs. Alford made her home with a son-in-law and only daughter, Mr. And Mrs. John S. Stevens of Blossburg. In a contest conducted in 1963 by the Retail Division of the Elmira Association of Commerce, Mrs. Alford was designated as the oldest mother in the Elmira trading area. When she reached the age of 100, she received greetings from then President Eisenhower and a plaque from the Tioga County Medical Society.
