Of Phoenix, Illinois died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois. Her wake was held at the Whisperwood Funeral Chapel in Phoenix on January 9th, and the funeral services were held at the Faith Christian Reformed Church in Tinley Park, Illinois on January 10th. Pastor Leeroy Coleman presided. Interment was at the Mt. Glenwood Memory Gardens, Glenwood, Illinois. She was born on March 31, 1924 in Tupelo, Mississippi to Arthur and Maggie Jones. She married Joseph Frank Alexander, who preceded her in death. Survivng are brother Kenneth Cool of Las Vegas, Nevada and sister Abitinah Smith of Chicago, Illinois; four sons David (Ellie) Alexander of Pontiac, Illinois; Joseph (Monica) Alexander of Riverdale, Illinois, Edwin Alexander (Kevin Simon) of Chicago Heights, Illinois, and Simeon Alexander of Phoenix, Illinois; daughter Aveyon (Scott) Parker of Chicago, Illinois; 15 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Alberta was a long time resident of Phoenix, Illinois (over 60 years) and was very active and involved in her community. She worked hard to improve the conditions of the village and it's residents. She was person who found joy in helping others; and who made a career of caring for the individuals residing at the Oak Forest Hospital, retiring after 26 years of employment as a Nurses Assistant. Alberta faced many adveristies during her life. She was orphaned at an early age, losing both her parents to illness, and was raised by an uncle. After 10 years of marriage, she was widowed and raised 5 children as a single parent. She was a person who had a strong belief in God, who followed the Lord and lived her faith. During her life she belonged to a number of different denominations, having spent the past 40 years as a member of the Seventh - Day Adventist Church family, where she spent many a Sabbath praising the Lord and visiting with one of her many friends of Christ. Alberta was a hard working, self - less and humble person who toiled ceaselessly to build her treasures in heaven rather than on earth. She will be remebered not for who she was, but for the countless lives she touched so greatly.
