Maud D Emerson, 80, passed away September 14 at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, following a brief illness.
Mrs Emerson was born on August 24, 1880, on a farm near Northfield MN, the daughter of John R and Louisa Alberts. She spent her early childhood in MN, and was a graduate of Carleton College Academy and Mankato State Normal School She taught school at Lakefield, St Paul and Hibbing MN.
On June 30, 1908 she married Thomas W Emerson and came to Miles City to live. After four years they took up a homestead 50 miles northwest of Terry. After proving up on the homestead, they purchased the Charles Watkins ranch and lived there until forced to sell their livestock during the drouth of the early 30's.
Mrs Emerson then worked as a welfare worker,first at Wibaux and later at Sidney. She had charge of the Richland County Welfare Office form 1936 until her retirement in 1950. She and her husband then spent a year in CA after which they returned to make their home in Terry.
Mr Emerson passed away in 1955. She is survived by one sister, Alice M Sibley of Glendale CA and a host of friends.
