Liberty Earl Albert, 93, of McAlester, died Friday, July 24, 2015, at his home. Born Dec. 7, 1921, in Bugtussle, he was the son of Ernest Homer and Leona Ann (Scott) Albert. He grew up there and had lived in the McAlester area most of his life. He married Doris Jean Callahan, and together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, serving in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was in Okinawa when the first atomic bomb was dropped, and after the second bomb, he served in Japan until he received his honorable discharge as a sergeant. When he returned to McAlester, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier until his retirement. He became a member of McAlester Masonic Lodge, joining the Consistory in January 1947 and became a 32nd degree Mason in 1947. He was also a member of McAlester American Legion Post 79. He enjoyed playing golf and watching Oklahoma University football. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was a Baptist from the age of 14, and he was a member of McAlester First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, adult Sunday school teacher and director. Survivors include his wife, Doris Jean Albert, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn Jean Albert Wadsworth and husband, Allen, of McAlester; Nancy Jane Albert Lane and husband, J. Paul III, of McAlester, and Polly Ann Albert Crawley and husband, Don, of Stillwater; grandchildren, Amanda Kathryn Winn Calaway and husband, Shawn, of McAlester; Jesse Paul Lane IV, of McAlester; Alexandra Albert Crawley, of Stillwater, and Joshua Albert Lane, of McAlester; great-grandchild, Caroline Kathryn Calaway, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, the Honorable Carl Bert Albert, Noal Ernest Albert and Homer Granville Albert; a sister, Kathryn Albert Peacock; a niece, Betty Jo Peacock Hay and her husband, Jess T. Hay, and a grandson, John Albert Baumert. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Russell and Rodney Briggs officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Pallbearers will be David Albert, Shawn Calaway, William Coe, William Hout, Jesse Lane and Joshua Lane. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Wadsworth, J. Paul Lane III, Dr. Don Crawley, Chuck McBee, J.A. Allford, Webb Spradley, Jess Albert Hay, Paul Bush, J. Paul Lane II and M.J. Turnipseed.
