Mr. Allen A. Akins, 84, passed away on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Spalding Regional Medical Center. Mr. Akins, born July 26, 1925, was the ninth of 13 children born to the late Seaborn and Sallie Willis Akins . He is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Akins.

Mr. Akins was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, having served in World War II, and was retired from the Coca-Cola Company after 32 years of service. Mr. Akins never met a stranger, always had a sweet smile and a kind word for everyone. He was a strong man who fought a long brave battle with cancer, not once but three times. God had a purpose for him on this earth and he fulfilled it without moaning, groaning or complaining. He was a true testament to everyone who knew him and cared for him while he was in the hospital the last two months. He did not know how to give up, God just had to come and take him in His arms with grace and love.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lorene Akins daughter and son-in-law, Denise and John Eady; grandchildren, Crystal Akins , Gracie, Brooke, and Bethany Eady; great-granddaughter, Autumn Grace Eady; brothers, Rufus Akins and Herbert Akins ; and sister, Alice Sauls.

Funeral services for Mr. Allen Akins were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Pastor John Nance officiated. Interment followed in Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
