Son of Andrew Ainslie (1804–1885) and his wife Elizabeth King 1806–1883 was born in Boston but lived part of his young life in Erie, Ohio. He served in Civil War as a 1st Lieutenant in the Union Army for the 1st Regiment, Ohio Heavy Artillery. Sometime after the Civil War and before the 1880 Census, he moved to Morgan County, GA. On that census he is listed as a widower. By 1890, he married Bennie Luta Ballard. Son, James William Ainslie, Sr (1894-1972).

Children per 1880 Census:
Tom Ainslie
Mamie Ainslie
Andrew Ainslie
Hattie Ainslie

Note for Bennie Ballard: Death cert lists place of burial as Dorsey, Morgan Co. Ga. So far, I have not found her burial location, but it is possible she is in an unmarked grave in this cemetery.
