Andrew Aiken, an old confederate veteran, died at his home near Blountville Sunday morning, and was buried at Gunnings at noon Monday. Rev. S.L. Browning conducted the funeral.

Andrew Aiken (Eakin) was the son of Abraham Eakin (buried in Indian Springs) and either Margaret Peavler (1st Wife) or Sarah (2nd wife unk last name). In November 1862 he enlisted in Blountville Tennessee in Co E, 61st Tennessee Mounted Infantry, Captain Denny's Company, Confederate States of America. His original service records can be found online along with his application for a civil war pension. On 22 January 1867 he married Rebecca Fenick (B: Virginia 1842) in Washington County Tennessee. They had five children: Albert, Mollie, Will, Wesley and James (who married Rose Ann Stark in 1900). Andrew is listed as a laborer on the 1880 Census and rented his property.
Andrew had 3 brothers who served in the civil war, but in different regiments. William Aiken (B: 1834 VA) served in Company H, 37th Virginia Infantry and was mustered out at Appomatox, VA in 1865. James Aiken (B: 1836 VA) served in Co D, 63rd Tennessee Regiment and ended the war as a Sergeant. Isaac Aiken (B: 1838 VA) who served in the 61st Tennessee Regimenet, was captured at Vickburg, was wounded in the ankle and sent to Camp Chase. Along with these brothers, Andrew also had brothers George (B: 1842), David (B:1845), Henry (B: 1851)and Samuel D.G. (B: 1860). He had these sisters: Catherine Barken (B: 1840), Emeline (B: 1843, Mary F Sumner (B:1854) and Margaret Ann (B: 1856)
