Helen Aguilar, long-time Wilmington resident, died of congestive heart failure, on April 18, 2011. She passed away peacefully in the company of her family. Helen was born in 1917 to Elena and John Schwab and as a young girl moved with her family, including her sister, Mary and brothers, John, Charlie, and Bill, to Wilmington, CA, where she attended Wilmington Park Elementary and Banning High School. She worked at various jobs in the Harbor area, including US Borax and the Terminal Island fish canneries. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Albert Aguilar, who died in 2002. Her greatest joys in life were family and friends. She and Albert enjoyed the events, dances, and group tours with the Wilmington Senior Center, VFW Seniors, and Club Concordia. She liked hosting card parties at her home for friends and neighbors, and her home was the center of family Christmas celebrations every year. She and her brothers loved their hometown and were active in keeping Wilmington safe and clean. She is survived by her three children: Albert, Jr., Pearl and Marian; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. All services will be at All Souls Mortuary, 4400 Cherry Ave, Long Beach (562-424-8601).
