Joseph A. "Joe" Agosta, 87, passed away Tuesday at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo following a long illness.

Joe was born and raised to Salvatore and Guiseppina Agosta in Crockett, and has lived in Vallejo the past 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 37 years, retiring in 1976.

Joe was a member of the Order of Sons of Italy - Virgilio Lodge No. 1586, Italian Catholic Federation, Moose Lodge, Elk's Lodge, Virtus Club, SIRS, NARFE, VFW, AARP, Druids, Native Sons of the Golden West and St. Basil's Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Contri Fomasi; and his brother, Steve Agosta.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Josephine; daughters, Jeanette (Butch) Arietta and Susan (Don) Cahan; son, Sal (Cynthia) Agosta; grandchildren, Lisa (Jerry) Hanson, Jana (Joe) Houston, Rose (Tim) Beeler, Daniel (Kassie) Agosta, Andria Agosta and Jenny Arietta; and great grandchildren, Joseph, Jonathan, Anthony, Zakkary, Sean, Landon, Taylor, Austin and Brandon.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, August 25 with vigil services at 7 p.m. at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held ay 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26 at St. Basil's Catholic Church, Vallejo. Entombment and military honors will follow at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo. A reception will immediately follow at the Sons of Italy, Italian Lodge, 621 Carolina St., Vallejo.

Memorial contributions are preferred to the Sons of Italy Scholarship Fund, C/O Adua D'Amico 1156 Ohio St., Vallejo, CA, 94590.
