English Royalty. Born the second son of Aethelweard, he was the grandson of Alfred, King of Wessex and Eahlwið, Princess of Mercia. He and his brother fought with King Aethelstan and the combined armies of Wessex and Mercia against Constantine II, King of Scotia and his allied Irish Vikings and Scots at the Battle of Brunanburh in 937. Both died as a result of wounds received.
