OBITUARY

Alma Alder was born near Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 18, 1833, and departed this life on Sept. 18, 1904, aged 70 years and 10 months.

With her parents she removed to Missouri when a child and later to Illinois, where she was married to David Morein in October, 1855, in Fulton County, Illinois (sic. see notes on this memorial regarding the marriage date and location). Two children were born of this union, Edward who died at the age of 9 years, and Frank G. Morein of this city. She removed from Illinois with her husband in 1880. In 1882 her husband died.

She was always active during her life and until recently enjoyed remarkably good health. Diligent in business she was also fervent in spirit and to her kindness of heart all her friends and neighbors can testify.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church and adorned her profession by a most consistent life. The funeral was held at the home of her son Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Alex. Corkey.

Caution: this memorial was originally entered with the first given name "Alma", maiden name "Adler", and married surname "Morein", per Evergreen cemetery transcription project information compiled in 1990.

An edit request was received on January 14, 2018, to have the first given name changed to "Mary", and the middle name inserted as "Alma". However, no direct supporting material or sourcing was, at this time, supplied to support that change. Because her census reports and obituary used her first name as "Alma", and her cemetery burial plot information listed her as "A. Morein", it seems more appropriate to retain "Alma" for the first given name for this memorial, but pending any clarification perhaps adding in "Mary" will be done in the near future. It is possible that her first given name really was "Mary", but that she used "Alma" during her adult life. One of those situations where name order can be difficult to justify either way.

That said, the maiden name used in the obituary was "Alder", not "Adler" as used in the cemetery listing from 1990. The April 30, 1884 marriage record in Jefferson county, Iowa, does list the mother of Frank G. Morein as Alma Alder. Am changing the maiden name to "Alder" for those reasons. The edit request did not provide parent relationship links or names of her parents, however.

Born in Columbus, Ohio per her obituary.
-------------------------

Married to David Morein. Her obituary cited their marriage to be in October 1855 in Fulton County, Illinois. However, there appear to be credible documents found on Ancestry for marriage records that cite the marriage as being on October 19, 1854, but in Knox, Illinois. Not entirely sure if that meant Knox county, or a town/city of Knox that may be in Fulton county, Illinois. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Children:

Edward Morein, died aged 9 per the mother's obituary, but DOB/DOD and burial location not known at this time. Any information about his burial location would be appreciated for relationship links.

Frank G. Morein, b. about 1861, d. Oct. 5, 1932 and buried in Los Angeles, Calif. (# 102851148)

---------------------

Caution: Although it may well be that Alma died in Jefferson county, Iowa (perhaps in the county seat Fairfield), no death record was entered with the Jefferson county Recorder's office, and her obituary did not specifically cite her death location. For those reasons her DOD location is not entered for this memorial. Unless other family researchers can provide citations from family information that goes beyond speculation, putting in a specific death location is not warranted at this time.
