FORT WORTH -- A.R. "Ray" Adkison, 77, of Fort Worth went to be with his Heavenly Father, Friday, Jan. 16, 2004.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church, 4400 Panola, Fort Worth, Dr. E. Lewis Adkison officiating. Burial: Private. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Memorials: May be made to Sagamore Hill Baptist Church or to the Community Hospice at Huguley, 301 Medpark Circle in Burleson.

Ray was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Lamesa and was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth. After graduating from high school, Ray joined the Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific and China, on the flagship of Admiral Kincaid. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1981, after delivering the mail in Fort Worth for 35 years. He served on the board of directors of the Fort Worth Postal Credit Union for 30 years. Ray met and married his sweetheart, Evelyn Turner, who became his true love through 56 years of marriage. He was a faithful husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a faithful Christian and a member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served as deacon and chairman of the deacon body. He began teaching Sunday school when he was a boy in the junior department and continued teaching Sunday school for the next 56 years.

Survivors: Wife, Evelyn Adkison; sons, Gary Adkison and wife, Carolyn, and Ron Adkison and wife, Debbie; three grandsons; one great-grandson, all of Fort Worth; sisters, Fay Culver (his twin sister) of Burleson and Maudie Gray of Sanderson; and brother, Lewis Adkison of Colorado Springs, Colo.
