Nurse. Seamstress. Upholstery shop owner. She loved to knit and crochet. She loved to read and watch old movies and westerns on TV. She loved animals, and had dogs and cats for as long as I can remember. She could never pass an abandoned animal by. She once raised a litter of opossums on a baby bottle. She loved flowers, and my Father had a hard time cutting grass without cutting down a new flower she had planted in the yard. She was outspoken and usually didn't care if anyone liked what she said or not, but she would never intentionally hurt anyone. She had a good sense of humor. She loved to talk on the phone and exchange mail with family and friends. She loved her family, and loved nothing better than having company over to visit. Mama had a stroke in Jan. 2004, and had to depend on me to care for her. This was something that did not appeal to an independent woman such as herself. She became so depressed because she couldn't walk without help, or crochet, or talk plainly. She had been living alone until then, even driving. She developed Alzheimer's. I think she is happy now, she is with the Lord, my Father, and all the other family members who have passed on. She can also walk, talk and do everything on her own. This makes me proud. My mother and father, Napoleon B. Adaway, had married in 1941 and divorced in 1958. They remarried in 1964, and remained married after that until his death in 1995. Four children, David, Bill, Daisy, and Mary. Eight grandchildren, David, Tessa, Micheal, LeRoy, John, Brian, and Brandy. Nine great-grandchildren, Anthony, Samantha, Kemberlee, Brett, Brandon, Roy Lee, Kassie, Toby, & more to be added. At the time of the photo the death scroll had not been added to the headstone. She is missed greatly. If you have time, please visit my Daddy's & other relative's pages.

Where are you Mama?
I miss you so much.
Your soft gentle smiles,
Your warm loving touch.
I knew you were leaving,
But how do you prepare?
You don't want to know that,
You pretend it's not there.
But death came to take you,
On a cold winter night.
You were sleeping so softly,
In the soft glowing light.
God needed someone.
Someone so kind and so sweet,
The Angels came to take you,
In your soft gentle sleep.
It was hard to release you,
I was selfish with grief.
But God always knows,
When it's time for us to leave.
I know you are happy there,
Sometimes you come in my sleep,
To turn the light on for me,
Then so quietly I weep.
