Reading. [news items] --- Abel A. Adams of West Windsor, while at work upon a flume at Bailey's Mills, on Saturday last, fell a distance of 17 feet, dislocating his shoulder and otherwise, though not severely, injuring himself. [Bellows Falls Times, Bellows Falls, Vermont, Fri., June 28, 1861, p.3]

m. (1st), 8 Jan 1816, in Windsor VT, Polly, dau. of Jonas and Peggy (Boyd) Adams. They were married for 48 years until her death February 15, 1864. Abel and Polly Adams were the adoptive parents of Mary E. [née Royce] (Adams) Kelley.
m. (2nd), 02 Nov 1864, in Cavendish VT, Mrs. Lurana [aka Susannah] (Pratt) Sanders. (See newspaper notice of marriage following). She was the widow of Eli Sanders to whom she was m. 23 April 1857, in West Windsor, Vermont.

MARRIAGES. In Cavendish, Nov. 2d, by Rev. J. Freeman, Dea. Abel A. Adams and Mrs. Lurana Sanders, both of West Windsor. [Vermont Journal, Windsor, Vermont, Sat., November 26, 1864, p.4]

Lurana was b. in Connecticut [perhaps Woodstock or Killingly] 23 Jul or 3 Aug 1817 (calculated birthdates given her age at death of 76 yrs 4 mos. 16 days), daughter of Elisha and Lurana (Connor) Pratt. The Vermont Tribune newspaper, issues dated Dec. 22, and Dec. 29, 1893, under "Felchville" news items indicate she died the 19th, not the 9th, hence some uncertainty in her calculated birthdate.

Married to Abel only four years before his death, Lurana m. (3rd, though the official record reads "4th"), Ira Ayers. The Reading, Vermont, Town Clerk records her death as 9 Dec 1893 [burial location not indicated].

DIED. In Felchville, Oct. 29th, Dea. Abel A. Adams, aged 71 years, 5 months and 12 days.
The death of Dea. Adams was that of a matured Christian. Seldom is the dying chamber of a Christian disciple the scene of such peaceful triumph as was his. He met the grim messenger without fear or quailing. His life was a pattern of Christian fidelity and consistency, and when the summons came he was prepared to go. In the morning of the day on which he died he called for the singing of that beautiful hymn,
"O sing to me of heaven when I am called to die."
Thus he passed to his eternal reward; but his death is a great loss to this community, and especially to the Baptist church of which he was a member. May the God of all grace comfort and sustain his bereaved family. C.H.R. [Vermont Journal, Windsor, Vermont, Sat., November 14, 1868, p.3]
