Arthur was born October 19, 1917, in Glenburn, North Dakota to Jacob E. and Louise (Rosenau) Adams. His family lived on a farm near Glenburn until 1925 when they moved to Minot, North Dakota, where he finished his education.

On June 19, 1940, he married Delores L. Oothoudt in Minot, North Dakota, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He worked as a railroad accounting cleark in Minot until 1957 when he was transferred to Willmar. He continued to work for the Burlington Northern until he retired in 1978. At the time of his retirement, he had achieved the position of assistant office manager at Willmar's District Accounting Office. Through the years he also was employed part time by the Farmer's Produce and Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee, treasurer and loyal member. He also belonged to the church senior citizens and the county historical society. Following his retirement, he and his wife wintered over in Sun City, Arizona, and returned to Willmar during the summer to be near their family.

Arthur died Monday, May 22, 1995, at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Willmar at the age of 77 years. His family was at his side.
