Adams, Lula K. (Wade)

Mrs. M. F. Adams died Monday at the Holy Family Rest Home in Spokane, where she had been a resident the past year and a half. The Adamses were pioneers of Harrington and their names are associated with the early history of the community. Lulu K. Wade was born April 30, 1865 at Mitchellsburg, KY. May 9, 1886 she was married to Marion Francis Adams in KY, and the couple came to Harrington. They farmed for a time, after which Mr. Adams engaged in the mercantile business (Adams & Mitchum store), and he was also affiliated with the Harrington State Bank (now a branch of the Old National system). In 1922 Mr. Adams retired and moved his family to Spokane. Mr. Adams died April 2, 1937. His wife continued to reside in the home, with her children who were still home. In her advanced age, she had several mishaps, resulting in fractured bones that hospitalized her. The past two years she was hospitalized for a fractured hip, first at Sacred Heart hospital from where she was moved to Sharon Arms until the Holy Family rest home was completed when she was taken there. Rosary was said Wednesday evening, Nov 1, and last rites are scheduled for Thursday Nov 2 at 10 AM from St Aloysius church. Her son, Rev Hubert Adams will officiate and will be assisted by two grandsons of Mrs. Adams, Rev Daniel Weber, S. J. of Portland and Mr .Dick Weber, S. J. of Seattle. Graveside services will be a 2 PM Thursday at St Francis Cemetery, Harrington, in the family plot beside her husband and five children. Surviving Mrs. Adams are one daughter, Mrs. John Weber (Marguerite) of Spokane, and six sons: A. Wade, Guy, Eli, Dr Robert V., all of Spokane; Bert L. Adams, Seattle, and Rev Hubert W. Adams, S. J., Mt St Michaels; sister, Mrs. Rose Mattes, Spokane; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grand-children. (Citizen-2 Nov 1961)
