Lela Adams, 89, of 625 Spring St., Grinnell, died at her home late Thursday evening, June 3.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. L. Willard Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Adams' name may be made to the First Friends Church.
The daughter of William and Rebecca Foster Utley, she was born at Eddyville. On Nov. 29, 1909, she was married to Charles Hiram Adams at Albia. The couple farmed south of Grinnell and near Malcom before moving to Grinnell in 1921.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the First Friends Church, the Women's Missionary Society of the Church, the Grinnell Senior Citizens, the D.U.V., the Grandmothers Club, the W.C.T.U., the Happy Helping Hands Club and the O.B.C. Club. She was an honorary member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Survivors include nine children, Beulah Corrick of Keswick, Leonard Adams of Richmond, Calif., Raymond Adams of Anaheim, Calif., Lucille Ackerman of Council Bluffs, Maxine Thompson of Oakland Acres, Virgil Adams of Kansas City, Mo., Kenneth Adams of Newburg and Clayton Adams of Normal, Ill.; 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1959; two daughters, Dorothy Louise and Wanda Arlene; one grandchild; three brothers, Roy, Guy and Ray Utley; and one sister, Iva Bown.
