Beatrice Adams, 90, of Avoca, IA, formerly of and long time resident of Griswold, IA, died Saturday afternoon, January 24, 2009, at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center.

Beatrice Ethel Hines was born on May 30, 1918, in Adams County, rural Grant, IA, the daughter of Roy H. and M. Estella (Curry) Hines. When Bea was very young, her mother married Merrill Foote. Bea attended rural schools and graduated from Grant High School in 1935. On June 3, 1937, she married Ross Adams at Maryville, MO and they farmed in Montgomery, Pottawattamie and Cass counties. Bea worked at the Griswold Care Center from 1965 to 1975. Ross died in 1981; in 1984 Bea moved to Griswold. Bea was a member of the Central Church of Christ and active in the Ladies Circle. She also was a member of or former member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Child Psychology Club, and neighborhood clubs.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, her husband, two sons: David in 1962 and Dwight in 2002, a grandson Glen Howard Adams in 1960, a sister Thelma Taylor, a brother-in-law Lloyd Taylor, and two sisters-in-law, Billie Ann Foote and Lucille Foote.

Survivors include her daughters: Patricia (Alan) Thornton of Avoca, IA; and Janet (Doug) Nelson of Griswold; her son Darrell (Deloris) Adams of Griswold; her daughter-in-law Shirley Adams of Griswold; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 9 step great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and one step great-great grandson and her special "granddaughter" Taylor Madden. Also surviving are her brothers, Lawrence Foote of Red Oak and Edwin (Marilyn) Foote of Stanton, and her sister Phyllis (Clair) Schuler of Atlantic as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, Don Gordon and Mike Fabian officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery.
