Barbara Gayle Gaddie Adams passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at her home at the age of 76.

She was born March 13, 1932 in Garland, Utah to James Hunter Gaddie and Erma Lillywhite Gaddie. Barbara was a "sugar brat" moving often through her life as her father served as the superintendent of U & I Sugar factories in Garland, Sugar City and Idaho Falls, Idaho. She graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Theatre/ Speech and a minor in Speech and Hearing. She taught at Cedar City High School for two years and then she entered the University of Washington's graduate program in Speech Pathology and Audiology, graduating with a Masters of Fine Arts in 1960. She returned to Cedar City to establish an audiology program in the Iron County School District.

She married Fred C. Adams by eloping to the St. George Temple on the 29th of May 1963, after they had begun the first two seasons of the Utah Shakespearean Festival. She took over the music and Green Show aspects of the Festival and began training members of the community to play English recorders to form a musical support group for the fledgling festival. She served for two years as the Dean of Women at S.U.S.C and became one of the first presidents of the Festival Guild. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in all of the auxiliaries of the church.

She is survived by her husband and four children, Dorcas Elizabeth Woodward (Gene), Glynis Ellyn Neves (Alan), Addison James and Dana Woodard Adams and Joshua Hunter and Jamie Hutt Adams, and 11 and a half grandchildren and her younger sister Dixie Morrell (Lee).

A viewing will be held at Southern Utah Mortuary from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, October 26. Another viewing will take place from 11:30-12:30 on Monday, October 27 at the Cedar City 16th LDS Ward Chapel located at 1925 West 320 South in Cedar City with the funeral following at 1 p.m.
Interment will take place at the Parowan City Cemetery.
