Obituary - LAYTON--Blaine William Adams, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away Monday, October 13, 1997. He was born November 29, 1907, in Layton, Utah, a son of Hyrum and Annie Adams. He grew up on the family farm and attended schools in Layton and Kaysville. He was a member of the LDS Valley View 5th Ward.
On October 31, 1933, he married his high school sweetheart, Marge Mabey of Clearfield, in Logan, Utah. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage before she preceded him in passing away, July 1996. Blaine was occupied in the farming profession from childhood, being active in raising crops, dairy farming, and the sheep business.
In his youth, Blaine was active in community baseball, home dramatics, and roadshows. He became recognized as a local history source; a colorful storyteller, with down-home humor.
Beginning in 1944, Blaine began his career with the government, working at the Ogden Aresenal, Naval Supply Depot, and Hill Air Force Base, where he retired in 1973. In 1948, he began construction of their home of nearly 50 years. Marge drew the plans, and he did most of the work himself. His creative talents are evident all around their home and yard, with a wishing well, waterfall and rock gardens. He became proficient at carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry and landscaping skills. Blaine was well known for his handy-man capabilities, which he unselfishly shared with anyone needing assistance, fixing things for others until he was well into his eighties. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and lapidary work, but most of all being with his family and friends.
Blaine is survived by his daughter, Annly, and her husband, David Capener; a granddaughter, Margie, all of Layton; a grandson, Steven Blaine and wife, Karen, and great-grandson, Sam of Clearfield; also, his sisters, Blanche Reed of Layton; and Bonnie (Joe) of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Rufus, Andrew, Dell, Frank, Clay, sisters, Birdie Udy and Bessie Grove.
