Irene R. (Adams) Christman, 83, of Greenwich Township, died suddenly on Thursday, April 6, 2017, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
She was the loving wife of Ernest W. Christman, whom she married on June 13, 1953. Born in Maxatawny Township, Irene was a daughter of the late Robert V. and Lydia C. (Reimert) Adams.
She was a 1951 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Krumsville.
After high school, Irene worked as a Bookkeeper at PP&L Corp., Allentown, for several years. Most recently, Irene was a homemaker and together with her husband, Ernest, they operated their family farm in Greenwich Township for many years.
She enjoyed puzzles, going to the casinos and her pet cat, "Amos." Most of all, Irene loved playing cards, especially Hausey, which she often played with her family and friends. She was even a member of a Sunday card playing group for many years.
In addition to her husband of almost 64 years, Ernest, Irene is survived by her three children: Ruth Ann (Christman), wife of Robert E. "Bobby" Dietrich, Glen E., husband of Lisa A. (Frey) Christman, and Lisa M. (Christman), wife of Tim D. Mertz, all of Kutztown. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Ida (Adams) Derr of Kutztown, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Irene was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Wayne A. Adams.
Funeral services for Irene will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017, in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown (Krumsville), with Reverend Dr. Dennis S. Ritter officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining New Bethel Zion Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church. Ludwick Funeral Homes Inc., Kutztown, is in charge of arrangements.
